National Audubon Society encourages people to participate in the annual Christmas Bird Count from home
Kitsap Audubon (www.kitsapaudubon.org) has been conducting annual CBCs for the last 47 years. The Kitsap count encompasses two “count circles” 15 miles in diameter which are further subdivided among designated teams who systematically count birds observed in their area on a specified count day. All data is compiled and reported to National Audubon.

Stillwaters has been involved in the North Kitsap/Port Gamble circle count for the Kingston/Indianola area since 2017. Although we normally welcome new volunteers, we are unable to do so this year. Due to COVID-19, National Audubon is requiring teams to keep group sizes small and limited to participants already familiar with conducting the CBC in our area.

Fortunately, National Audubon has always encouraged people to submit a checklist of birds seen in your own backyard on the day of the count 1) if your home is within the boundaries of a CBC circle and 2) as long as you have made prior arrangements with the local count compiler. This is especially encouraged this year.
