ABOUT US

 WHO WE ARE:
Stillwaters is an environmental education center in the Carpenter Creek watershed of   Kingston, Washington, on the Kitsap Peninsula. The 8 acres of wetlands ecosystem here is valued for environmental,   aesthetic,   and educational benefits.

The Stillwaters wetlands are part of a larger system that includes forested, freshwater and emergent salt marsh communities. The salt marsh is part of the Apple Tree Cove Estuarine wetland system, which flows into Puget Sound. Carpenter Lake is just upstream from here, and we are part of the Carpenter Creek riparian zone. Through our community group, the Cutthroats of Carpenter Creek, we are working to protect the fragile areas of the Carpenter Creek watershed.

 OUR MISSION:
The mission of Stillwaters Environmental Education Center is to teach, inspire and support individuals and organizations to achieve sustainability in the use of Earth's resources.

WHAT WE ARE DOING:
The work of Stillwaters is

  • To educate persons concerning wetlands and water quality issues affecting the environment.
  • To mobilize citizens and agencies to restore and preserve the Carpenter Creek Watershed and surrounding areas.
  • To make wetlands and watershed areas more accessible to the   public and to students.
  • To preserve and provide stewardship for the Stillwaters ecosystem.
